Ten-year-old Hope Hanlin glimpsed this beautiful coal storage box while looking over her mother’s shoulder as she examined the latest display of items from her father-in-law’s import business. Daisies were her favorite flower, and Hope begged her mother to buy it. Since the previous winter had been frightfully cold and this box was both lovely and large, Elizabeth agreed. It was so pretty that guests often were surprised to discover its true purpose.
