Mahogany Paneled Marble Bathroom Sink
⊛29 ddCoins
Details
This lovely sink features a cabinet made of heavy mahogany with a white porcelain base, and was a favorite of Mrs. Hanlin’s. Just a week after the Hanlins moved into their Dream Victorian in November of 1880, there was a sharp earthquake. Though not at all unusual in San Francisco, it not only caused a break in the main water line, but also shattered the porcelain basin in the bathroom. It took Jerry Lead, a local plumber, six days to restore water to the Hanlin’s home. He also patched the sink, but the leftover scars always bothered Elizabeth, especially since her guests were the ones who primarily used this basin. She felt guilty, though, about purchasing a new one when, after all, the existing sink performed its function satisfactorily. Nevertheless, a year after the earthquake, her husband Thomas surprised her with this lovely replacement. She rewarded him with a kiss on the nose.
